Overview

The Bahamas government system is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy headed by Queen Elizabeth II. Since the Bahamas is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations the Bahamas recognizes Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as the Head of State.

The Governor General is Her Majesty's representative. The Executive Branch is made up by the cabnet. The cabnet has general direction and control of the Government of The Bahamas. It consists of at least nine ministers. The Legislative Branch is made up of members of parliment and makes laws based on the needs of the people. The Judiciary Branch serves to enforce the laws made by the legislative branch. It consists of five persons with the Chief Justice as Chairman.

The Prime Minister

Perry Christie

The current prime minister of the Bahamas is Perry Gladstone Christie, born August 21, 1943. He has served as prime minister since May of 2012 and previously served from 2002 to 2007. Perry Christie is a member of the Progressive Liberal Party.

Philip Edward Davis currently serves as Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas. He is both a lawyer and politician famously representing Samuel Knowles a famous drug runner.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration

Fred Mitchell

Fredrick Audley Mitchell Born on October 5, 1953 serves as the foreign minister of the Bahamas. He currently has a masters degree in communications from Harvard University and obtained a law degree from the University of Buckingham.
